Cuts that are large or deep enough to reveal underlying tissue typically require stitches to close properly and promote safe healing.
If bleeding continues for more than 10 minutes despite applying firm pressure, medical intervention is needed to control it.
Wounds caused by contaminated items increase the risk of infection and may require stitches along with a tetanus booster (available for an additional $75).
Lacerations in these sensitive or high-movement areas benefit from precise closure to protect function and minimize visible scarring.
Redness, pus, swelling, or warmth around the wound are signs of infection that need prompt evaluation and treatment.
At QuickVisit Urgent Care locations across Iowa, we provide thorough wound evaluation, cleaning, suturing, and aftercare — all in one visit to support proper healing. Most provider visits take less than 30 minutes, with a goal of getting you in and out in under an hour.
Comprehensive wound treatment often involves more than just stitches or bandaging. At QuickVisit Urgent Care, we provide additional services to ensure safe healing and infection prevention, including:
Tetanus Vaccinations: For puncture wounds, bites, or injuries caused by rusty or dirty objects, we administer tetanus boosters (Td and DTaP available for $75) to protect against serious bacterial infections.
Wound Checks and Suture Removal: Proper aftercare is key to recovery. Our providers schedule follow-up visits to monitor healing progress, clean and redress wounds, and safely remove stitches when ready.
Antibiotic Prescriptions: If there’s a high risk of infection or early signs of bacterial growth, we can prescribe oral or topical antibiotics when appropriate to aid healing and reduce complications.

How soon should I get stitches?
It’s best to treat wounds as soon as possible to reduce infection risk. Please be aware that suturing may not be possible for wounds that happened more than 24 hours prior.
Will I feel anything during the procedure?
We use a local anesthetic to ensure minimal discomfort during the suturing process.
Do you remove stitches too?
Yes — we’ll schedule or recommend a follow-up visit for safe removal when your wound has properly healed. We can remove stitches placed by another facility, as well.
Is this covered by insurance?
Most plans cover wound treatment. We also offer transparent self-pay options at $159 all-inclusive for in-house services. We can help you understand your coverage options and offer a sliding scale fee discount based on household size and income.
Can you treat kids with lacerations?
Absolutely — we treat all ages from birth to death with gentle, family-friendly care.
